Synonyms: fashion, style, mode,
vogue. These nouns refer to the prevailing or preferred practice
in dress, manners, behavior or the like, at a given time.
Fashion, the broadest term, can denote custom or
practice that prevails among any group of persons. Usually
it specifies such practice that follows the conventions of
polite society or mass culture. Style is sometimes
used interchangeably with fashion, but style can
refer to what adheres to the standards of elegance, the sense
of which mode is also used. Vogue is applied
to what prevails widely and obviously at a given time; often
the term suggests enthusiastic acceptance of something for
a rather short period, also temed a "fad".
